Job Description
Project Design Engineer
Our client, a leading manufacturer and designer of engineering systems is hiring a Project Design Engineer to join their team. This is a contract position with a very strong possibility of becoming a permanent full time role. - Serve as the primary contact for the technical and engineering aspects of the assigned project. Assist the Engineering Manager by providing him information regarding schedule, progress and personnel.
- Will be responsible for the execution of jobs of medium to large scope and complexity and/or participate in very large group projects.
- Coordinate, direct, plan assigned projects in the Engineering Department. Work with other support personnel to see that the job is kept on schedule.
- Become intimately familiar with the job’s engineering requirements and specifications. Estimate manpower requirements, develop milestone charts and schedules. Monitor the progress of the job against those schedules. May handle more than one job at a time.
- Coordinate the work being done by the assigned mechanical engineering group personnel and personnel in other engineering departments. Work with the Engineering Manager, Engineering Supervisor and customer’s engineering representative to resolve design and engineering problems.
- Review project designs for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and customer contract requirements, and related specifications. Communicate with vendors and customers to resolve specific questions.
- Coordinate activities concerned with technical developments, schedule, and resolving engineering design and test problems.
- Direct integration of technical activities and products.
- Evaluate and approve design changes, specifications, and drawing releases.
- Control and monitor expenditures within limitation of project budget. Produce cost-effective, reliable designs.
- Prepare interim and completion project reports.
- Report schedule impact changes promptly. Participate in meetings with the customer, vendors, the shop, etc. and provide engineering input to same. Evaluate change requests and distribute design change information.
- Mechanical Engineering or Technologist Diploma is preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in a similar design/project function for a manufacturer
- Knowledge of AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor, latest release, good working knowledge of Word, Excel, Microsoft project
- Excellent oral and written communication skills are a must
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
- An ability and willingness to learn and grow with the company.
- Some travel to customer locations is required.
