The Department of Athletics is committed to improving the quality of life through physical activity. Reporting to the Fitness Program Supervisor, the Fitness Program Co-ordinator is the front-line person who assists with the daily supervision and administration of the Fitness Centre, as well as the creation, implementation, and supervision of the dance, yoga, and Pilates instructional programs. The successful candidate is responsible for overseeing and assisting with the provision of comprehensive services to students and all individuals looking to engage in health and wellness activities.

The Fitness Centre services over 5,000 members per semester. Over 5,000 square feet of gym space is supervised by 35 part-time staff for over 200 hours per week. The dance, yoga, and Pilates Instructional program offers over 50 classes per week and employs approximately 35 instructors. The Fitness Program Co-ordinator is responsible for: scheduling; hiring; training and supervision of staff; daily operation of the program areas; the marketing and communication for both of these program areas; on-going analysis and monitoring of trends and service standards with respect to specific programs and related equipment; assisting in the administration and monitoring of the program budget; quality programming and excellent customer service and revenue generation. The successful candidate is responsible for ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations and for establishing department-specific standards and procedures, including ensuring that staff has current certifications, to reduce risk and increase safety in the program areas. The Fitness Program Co-ordinator must actively promote, encourage, and support the mission, goals, and values of the Department of Athletics. The success of the Fitness Centre and the dance, yoga, and Pilates instructional programs will rest on the incumbent’s ability to respond to student and customer needs, work with a diverse team of staff, and mentor and train student leaders and others in Fitness Centre supervision and instructional programs.

Requirements of the position include: Community college graduation (completed education in Kinesiology/Physical Education, Sports Administration, Recreation Programming, or related field preferred) and two years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional requirements include: Standard First Aid, CPR, AED, Personal Training Certification (other fitness related certifications would be considered an asset); instruction of classes and courses; a thorough knowledge of supervisor’s responsibilities under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other applicable regulations; strong leadership, customer, and budget administration skills; commitment to on-going professional development; proven ability to multi-task and manage time; excellent organizational skills; superior verbal and written communication skills; excellent computer skills, including ACTIVENET Software and MS Office knowledge.

Hours of work: September, October, November & January, February, March – hours of work will be Sunday to Thursday 12 pm to 8 pm. December, April, May, June, July, August – hours of work will be scheduled for 8 hours per day within the time span of 6:30 am to 9 pm.  Hours will be flexible based on business needs and are subject to change.
