In partnership with Prime Management Group Inc., Ardent Industries is recruiting for a results-oriented Corporate Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to join their growing team.
As the Corporate Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager at Ardent Industries, you will play a pivotal role in supporting their business strategy and delivering on their higher purpose of “enriching the lives of our partners.” You will provide strategic direction by developing and implementing corporate EHS policies and programs while fostering a culture of safety excellence.
This influential role operates at a corporate level and provides EHS leadership to the entire Ardent family of companies, including Steelway Building Systems, ExSteel Building Components, Zelus Material Handling, Glass Canada, and Ventri Door Technologies.
Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, you will interact with employees at all levels, making a significant impact on their organization.
In this position, you will be accountable for the following:
  • Designing, planning, and implementing EHS programs and policies to support Ardent's overall initiatives.
  • Creating synthesis and consistency by promoting an employee-focused culture of environmental, health, and safety across the Ardent level.
  • Developing a safety culture that emphasizes quality, continuous improvement, and high performance.
  • Building relationships of trust and mutual respect with organizational leaders to effectively meet the organization's needs.
Your responsibilities as the Corporate EHS Manager will include:
  • Aligning corporate and local EH&S goals and strategies by leading the development of policies, programs, and resources at a corporate level.
  • Ensuring company policies and procedures comply with applicable legislation in Ontario and recommending necessary amendments.
  • Overseeing health and safety committees, ensuring regular meetings and documentation in accordance with requirements.
  • Collaborating with the Wellness & Abilities Manager and HR to support the Return-to-Work Program for occupational and non-occupational illnesses/injuries.
  • Leading incident investigations, including root cause analysis and developing corrective action plans.
  • Developing and coordinating health and safety training materials.
  • Overseeing health and safety audits and certification programs.
  • Measuring and analyzing environmental, health, and safety statistics, and recommending improvement opportunities.
  • Presenting environmental, health, and safety information at Employee Meetings.
  • Developing and maintaining effective relationships with external agencies and staying current in the field.
  • Driving environmental programs related to air, energy, waste, and water.
  • Leading, monitoring, and promoting pollution prevention activities.
  • Generating permit applications for air emissions, wastewater, and hazardous wastes.
  • Managing the hazardous waste disposal program and assisting with reporting requirements.
  • Developing regular reporting metrics and preparing reports for management on monthly environmental statistics.
  • Arranging for Industrial Hygiene assessments as necessary.
To succeed in this role, you will need:
  • A university degree or college diploma specializing in environmental or occupational health & safety discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in leading health and safety initiatives in a multi-site organization.
  • Extensive knowledge of relevant legislation, such as the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Human Rights Legislation, and Occupational Health & Safety Act.
  • Computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and email.
  • A health and safety-related designation such as CRSP or CHSC is an asset.
  • Familiarity with third-party safety prequalifiers (ISNetworld, Avetta, etc.).
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Strong presentation and public speaking abilities.
  • A valid driver's license and willingness to travel regularly between various Ardent Industries locations.
This role could be assigned to one of Ardent’s primary offices in Ontario, while travelling between various locations. Travel between the Ardent Industries business locations will be divided equally.
