Machine Builder

Job Title: Machine Builder
Department: Production / Tooling / Engineering
Reports To: Engineering Manager
Location: Autotube Strathroy, 300 High St E


Position Summary
The Machine Builder is responsible for assembling, fitting, and installing mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components to build or repair custom machinery and tooling. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, and strong problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assemble machines and equipment according to blueprints, schematics, and engineering drawings.
  • Install and align mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components (bearings, cylinders, actuators, conveyors, etc.).
  • Fabricate and modify parts using hand tools, machining, or welding when required.
  • Inspect, test, and troubleshoot mechanical assemblies for accuracy and functionality.
  • Work collaboratively with engineering, maintenance, and production teams to ensure equipment meets performance standards.
  • Participate in machinery commissioning, debugging, and adjustments.  Be a key support for machine setup operators to help troubleshoot.
  • Follow all safety procedures and ensure a clean, organized work area.
  • Support continuous improvement and preventive maintenance initiatives across the facility.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical diploma or apprenticeship in mechanical, industrial, or tool/machine building preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in machine building, maintenance, or automation assembly.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and basic electrical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Experience using precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, etc.).
  • Skilled with hand tools, machine shop equipment, and power tools.
  • Basic understanding of PLCs, sensors, and wiring is an asset.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail are critically important for this role.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Physical Requirements
  • Work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machinery, noise, and occasional heavy lifting.

Work Schedule
This position is STRAIGHT DAYS (no rotating shifts).  Monday to Friday 7:00am-3:30pm.  Wage rate range $35-40.
